5/24 - 5/25 UPDATE We've all hooked up... the entire MESO team this year. There are nine of us from all corners of the nation. We spent the 24th in Norman, OK where we also held our annual business meeting. We welcome Deb McKay and Josh Jans as first year chasers with MESO. When asked what Deb thinks of MESO: "They're NUTS. They're smart, they're fun, they're educators, and they're tolerant." Josh adds: "This is definately a learning experience. Definately." We run an ongoing tutorial and open forecasting forum that allows input and questions from everyone...hopefully that's what Josh is referring to. Back again for his second year is Doug Elick. Doug is delighted to be on board again this year, and has counted the days till we could get back on the road with us. "If it's anything like last year, I'll have a blast." Secondly, apologies for any misunderstanding on the cow tipping mention in our last update. We aren't really tipping cows, we were only trying to provide an accurate guage for our inactivity. However the consecutive clear sunny days were a bit much. On the morning of the 25th, we took our annual pilgrimage to NSSL and SPC in Norman. Before heading to the High Plains of TX, we stopped by a Subway for lunch. On a highway in the TX panhandle, we were witness to several strong dust devils along the side of the road. Nothing too wild, but it's a start. Last night's and this morning's forecasts lead us to our present location in the TX panhandle. The typical parameters we look at are CAPE, LI, wind speed and direction at several heights, theta-e, moisture advection, surface convergence, etc. Based on SPC outlooks, we're exactly where we should be for tomorrow when the current forecasts verify. We're plenty happy. We may get some late storms tonight, but we're keying on tomorrow. Nancy Bose Deb McKay Brian McNoldy MESO http://www.mcwar.org
